Hoof, Body & Soul, Part III: Mission Impossible, unedited, by Gudrun Buchhofer. Blog 57, case # 57
CHAPTER 1
Atrophy, the fundamental cause for most all hoof pathology and upper body injuries
Ringbone/sidebone/ossification/arthritis
Case # 57
Senior Norwegian Fjord horse mare with arthritis under my hoof care wings for ten years
As the mare healed from atrophy in the back of her hooves, her boxy front hooves naturalized, her arthritis got a lot better, she no longer tucked the left front behind the vertical and held forward the right front as well as she no longer leaned on me heavily. At some point she was able to pick up her hooves with ease. Her body was supported with herbal supplements but she was off any medication.
Five years into my hoof care — tucking the left front behind the vertical and holding forward the right front
Five years into my hoof care — left front post trim
By year eight the back of her hooves finalized the completion of the variant capsule-angle-of-growth (which should have happened in the first weeks and months of her life). Between year five and eight a visible increase of hoof mass has taken place. The left front no longer presents the boxy shape. Needless to say, all four feet were equally involved in the healing from atrophy in the back of the hooves.

The mare lived outside 24/7 in a beautiful Paddock Paradise with two other horses. ♥

Stay tuned for the upcoming cases (under my care for up to 20 years) in this blog series as a replacement for the unpublished part III: Mission Impossible of my trilogy Hoof, Body & Soul.
What did all my client horses over the last 20+ years have in common? They needed to heal from atrophy of the back of the foot as well as other atrophied hoof structures.
Q: Why do we need to change the upbringing of our baby horses and donkeys? A: To prevent senseless suffering.
